Honouring the voices, journeys, and contributions
of the Indian Muslim diaspora.
From the historic town of Bihar Sharif, a place shaped by centuries of scholarship and
cultural exchange, Tarique Nezami’s early life was grounded in values that have long
defined many Indian Muslim families: education, discipline, humility, and a belief that
knowledge opens doors to opportunity. Raised in a middle-class household, he grew up
in an environment where learning was not only encouraged but deeply respected.
Bihar Sharif’s intellectual legacy left a strong imprint on Tarique’s formative years.
Surrounded by traditions of inquiry and reflection, he developed an early fascination
with mathematics and science—subjects that nurtured his analytical instincts and set
him on the path toward engineering. The principles instilled during these
years—perseverance, curiosity, and a commitment to excellence—became the
foundation of his personal and professional journey.
Alongside his academic pursuits, Tarique also dedicated himself to religious learning.
He became a Hafiz-e-Quran,and has had the honor of leading Taraweeh prayers for
several years in his home town and at his alma mater. This experience reflects the
religious grounding and discipline that have remained an important part of his life.
Tarique began his engineering education at the Birsa Institute of Technology, Sindri, an
institution known for producing generations of engineers who have contributed to India’s
industrial and technological landscape. His undergraduate years strengthened his
technical grounding and sparked a deeper interest in systems engineering and
emerging technologies.
He later advanced his studies at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), one of India’s
most prestigious engineering institutions. The academic rigor and exposure to
cutting-edge research broadened his perspective and refined his expertise, preparing
him for opportunities within the global technology ecosystem.
After completing his education, Tarique entered the semiconductor industry, a field at
the heart of modern innovation. Over the years, he built deep expertise in system
design and engineering, contributing to technologies that power computing,
communication, and digital infrastructure worldwide.
His professional journey eventually led him to Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), one of
the world’s leading semiconductor companies. Today, he serves as Senior Manager,
System Design, where he plays a key role in developing advanced computing systems
that support the digital backbone of the globe.
Through his work in semiconductor engineering, Tarique has established himself in one
of the most technically demanding and globally impactful industries of our time.
Semiconductors form the core of modern life—enabling cloud computing, artificial
intelligence, data centers, and everyday consumer devices.
At AMD, he contributes to the design and engineering of systems that drive these
technologies forward. His leadership and technical insight support innovations that
shape the digital experiences of millions across the globe.
From the sacred discipline of memorizing the Quran to designing the microchips
powering the digital world — In many ways, Tarique’s journey can be described as a
story from the hall of Madarsa to the forefront of the Microchip industry. It reflects the
powerful continuity between religious learning and scientific excellence, illustrating how
the traditions of scholarship within Muslim communities can inspire achievement in the
most advanced fields of modern technology.
Tarique Nezami’s story reflects a wider narrative within the Indian Muslim diaspora: individuals who pursue education and excellence across continents while remaining deeply connected to their roots. His journey embodies the values of learning, aspiration, and perseverance that define so many diaspora families.
From a town known for its intellectual heritage to the forefront of global semiconductor innovation, Tarique represents a legacy of progress shaped by dedication and purpose. His path stands as an example for future generations showing how talent and perseverance can transcend borders and contribute to the evolving story of the diaspora.
His journey reflects the spirit of the Indian Muslim diaspora — a community that continues to invest in knowledge, build meaningful careers across the world, and contribute to the advancement of science, technology, and society while remaining rooted in its cultural heritage.
