of the Indian Muslim diaspora.
Syed Omar Alam was born in Saudi Arabia and raised in New Delhi, growing up in a family where professional service and community engagement were deeply valued. As the younger son of a doctor and a lawyer, he was exposed early to an environment that emphasized learning, responsibility, and public contribution.
Omar’s early schooling took place between Gizan in Saudi Arabia and Delhi, experiences that introduced him to diverse cultural and social settings. During these formative years he developed an interest in engineering, technology, and analytical thinking, while also nurturing a personal appreciation for reading and visual art.
Over the years, Omar’s journey has taken him across multiple cities in India and North America, where he has lived, studied, and worked. Today, he resides in Mississauga, Ontario, while pursuing a PhD in Management Science at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, continuing his academic and professional exploration
Higher education began with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, where leadership and community engagement were as important as academics. During university he served as General Secretary of the Mechanical Engineering Club and participated in Rotaract initiatives focused on social outreach and community service.
The early years of his professional career were spent in India’s manufacturing sector, working with Escorts Agri Machinery Group and later Tata Motors in Jamshedpur. These experiences introduced him to the complexities of industrial operations and large-scale production systems.
A growing interest in global supply chains led Omar to pursue management studies at the Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, where he completed the PGPX in Global Supply Chain Management. His academic journey then took him to the United States, earning a Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Purdue University, an experience that broadened his perspective on global business and operations.
Over the years, Omar worked across several high-growth technology and e-commerce companies including Snapdeal, Cure.fit, OYO, and Flipkart, contributing to logistics strategy, operational expansion, and last-mile delivery systems.
Alongside his professional work, social impact has remained a constant priority. During the COVID years, Omar and his wife Farheen Rashid co-founded With Love We Care, an initiative focused on improving awareness and accessibility of mental health support.
Today, based in Canada, Omar is pursuing a PhD at DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, continuing his engagement with research, teaching, and the evolving field of supply chain and data analytics.
His work has included initiatives that reduced logistics costs through process optimization, improved next-day delivery performance through collaboration with logistics partners, and enhanced customer satisfaction through data-driven operational analysis and strategic action planning.
Beyond the corporate environment, Omar is committed to social wellbeing as well and has been an active member of the Muslim Foodbank since 2023
